Awaba Forest

A very nice looking course, but not my taste. Too many doglegs and I hate "Steel-trees". Have to practise some rounds to catch not this overhanging trees. Evil or Very Mad

Totally agree about the steel tree's Kurt Sad Started well with 3 birdies in 3 holes, came to the 6th a short par 4 and hit an invisible branch just above the tee with a straight 5 wood (no heroics like cutting corners or going for the green involved) the ball ended up about 40 yds to the right of the tee in dry grass. No option but to chip back to the tee and even then the dry grass is steel too. Eventually took 11 to go to +4, I've had to take a break from the round to calm down Evil or Very Mad Interesting course but the flaws totally spoil it for me.

Beware guys !!!!

My apologies for the flaws in the course chaps. Something I wasn't aware of and also something I didn't encounter during the play-testing when setting conditions and pins.

Must try harder, lol.

I think that as a RTS player this course caused me many problems but if you plotted your way round you could take a lot of problems out, makes a change from just hitting your driver 300yds and then a 9 iron onto the green, i also hit the trees once or twice and yes they seem quite solid but all in all i great test for us RTS'ers

Superstar and I played the round online last night and although we did encounter the odd trees, or Anders did, lol Laughing , I still find the course a good and sound challenge indeed.
This is by all means not a hard-hitter course, but one of those where you have to consider each tee-shot thoroughly before hitting the thing.
Often forcing you to pick a wood or even an iron for your tee-shot instead of the Big Bertha Driver...
But a remake of the thing without the errors would still be welcome... lol!

No apologies needed Daz, you do a great job mate. Just pointing out the pitfalls for those yet to play their rd. Wink

Played a practice round and didn't hit a tree once - wondered what everyone was complaining about Laughing . Then I played Rd 2 and promptly hit the tree hanging over the front right of green #1 with my approach... Embarassed Hit a few more the rest of the way but luckily didn't get any crazy bounces.

The course is a bit tight, but I like how it demands the player to shape shots and plot your way around. But it's a good thing the greens are pretty tame, because wild greens would be way too stressful after the white knuckle ride off most every tee!

I was going along quite nicely at Awaba round two when I played a poor approach on the tenth and got into some rough.
Nine shots later I finally managed to hole out. I seemed to be encountering some steel air ( affraid ) or maybe it was just steel grass.
But whatever, it amounted to an eleven.
It is a shame because it's quite a nice looking course but I agree with a previous poster in that it has rather too many doglegs.
But Daz, it's good to try a few more unusual courses, just unlucky on this one.

I found that same steel grass in the second round and took 4 shots to get out. No matter which way I rotated or club I used I hit it. It was a nine in any case by the time I finished. Needless to say the rest of the round I was not enthused to make a comeback. The last round I played much more conservative and the result was much better.

Many times the overhead view did not show all the trees because after hitting in the rough and what I thought would be an easy recovery turned out to have several steel trees in my way. I wonder if zooming in on the top view would bring more of the trees into view?

I did not encounter the problems raised by many and found it a great challenge especially off the tee. You know with slightly better textures, less of the steel/concrete and slightly tougher greens, this course would surpass the likes of Wagga Wagga. Playing Elite 'blind' as it were esp in Rd 2 really focused the little grey cells. I really enjoyed it alththough I fear this will be the last we see of it here at WLS. pale

Looks like a very impressive start here at OLT for you Dave .
The bad news is that you are only going to get about two Australian dollars for winning this No
I'll have to try and pull my game together, but remember the eyes of the Sandwichfinder.............. What a Face

I thought Awaba was very good...some problems with "invisible" trees but overall a good test.

My biggest hurdle was the back nine at Wagga Wagga...it seemed like a completely differnt course with different (more difficult) conditions than the front. Iwas wondering if anyone else felt that way or was I simply a bit to deep into my cups to perservere. lol!

Cheers,
