Tour Event Page - Message Board Pilot
Those recently logging on to the Tour Event Homepage, may very well have noticed the appearance of a 'Twitter' widget. After an idea put forward by Anders, I'm going to give it a go, to see how it performs, if it gets the information across, and how the membership find it.
It will be used as a kind of 'shoutbox' where I can leave updates relating to the tour, where I don't always have time to get to to the PC and carry out the full leaderboard updates, so players can see that there files are coming in, even if they haven't yet been added to the site.
Now, I'm not asking any of the members to sign up to Twitter, as they can just view the widget on the tour site and follow the updates. Obviosuly anyone who may have a Twitter account, by all means become a 'follower'. Alternatively I am informed their are plug-in programs that can relay details of Twitter updates tto your PC, but I think I will leave this to members like Anders who appear to be familiar with this kind of gadgetry, lol.
I hope the 'widget' adds a little bit more 'real-time' feel to the tour, especially at times when my full updates may be delayed for one reason or another.
Any comments, please feel free to post them.

Brilliant idea Daz, will have to be careful with my comments from now on though lol.
It does look good to see players comments after the rounds.

Twitter apps and info
Daz,
I'm glad to see the Twitter widget on the Event page ... looks good mate.
With regards to Twitter applications and which one is best to use - well that's down to personal preference. I currently use TweetDeck from tweetdeck.com and that does the trick for me. If you want to look for alternatives, all you have to do is do a google search on 'twitter apps' and you will find loads.
Basically, a Twitter application will run like any other program on your PC and notify you with a sound or message when a new tweet has arrived from one of the people you're following ...... for instance Daz's OfflineTour. This means that you don't have to constantly be logged in to twitter.com in order to check for messages.
In case there are some out there who have no clue what I'm talking about but would like to know more about Twitter, I can recommend two really good podcasts to listen to, which will give you the necessary information you need on the subject:-) The podcasts can be found at these two links:
http://chkpt.zdnet.com/chkpt/1pcast.rdpod/http://podcast-files.cnet.com/podcast/realdeal050807.mp3 (that will download the podcast straight-away - not a big file).
http://www.cnet.com/8301-17920_1-10193173-84.html?tag=mncol;title (this page has the download link and some additional information about the show).
Feel free to give me a shout if you have any questions but as Daz stated earlier, you don't have to do anything if you just want to get the updates from his Event page.
Cheers
Anders

Re: Tour Event Page - Message Board Pilot
Blimey - what has happened to the game where you would stick a small white ball on a piece of wood (or plastic), swing a bat to connect with it and try to project it more than 5 yards along the fairway towards a very small hole. Twittering was always a past-time engaged in by twits. I know times are changing, but are the definitions changing too
